Professor Dr. Rashid Ahmad is currently working as The Director, Academics. Dr.Rashid Ahmad was born in 1960 in a village of then District Multan now Khanewal. He completed his high school education with Ist division from a school of high repute in the B.E.S.E., Multan. He joined University of Agriculture, Faisalabad in 1980 and completed his B.Sc.(Hons.) Agri and M.Sc. (Hons.) Agri. degrees in 1984 and 1986 with distinction. All through his academic career, he was an outstanding intellectual. He won merit scholarship throughout his stay at the school, college and the University. He stood second in B.Sc. (Hons.)Agri. and first in M.Sc. (Hons.) Agri and was awarded silver medals.
Dr. Ahmad obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Idaho, USA with excellent grades. He was recognized as a bright, diligent and congenial scientist by the University. For his Ph.D. research, he opted to work on drought, a problem of National as well as International significance. He published his Ph.D. research work from USA and Germany. During his stay in USA, he attended several seminars, four annual conferences of the American Society of Agronomy and Crop Sciences, three field trips to different states, and a study tour to Canada. During his Ph.D. programme, he took several specialized courses like college teaching and learned advanced teaching techniques by practically teaching to undergraduate classes.
Dr. Ahmad was appointed as lecturer in the department of Crop Physiology in the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan on April I 1987, Assistant Professor in 1995, Associate Professor in 1999 and Professor in 2006. As a professional teacher and research worker, he has the honour to visualize the need for and materialize it in the form of development of his newly established department. He established University meteorological observatory and stress physiology laboratory which help in teaching and research work on abiotic stresses and climatology, the subjects of vital importance in the years ahead. He developed many courses in his department specially the courses on physiology of drought and environmental biophysics became very popular and is attracting the post-graduate students form various disciplines not only in the Faculty of Agriculture but those from basic sciences for so many years. These courses along with others are a special treatise for Ph.D. students working on adaptation of plants to stressful environments and general physiology of crop plants.
Dr. Ahmad worked as Principal Investigator on eight research projects completed under the financial support by the University Grants Commission. He also worked as Co.Principal Investigator and subject specialist/coordinator in four other research projects funded by UGC, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, Islamabad (PARC) and CIMMYT Maxico. He participated/presented papers in national and International conferences/symposia/and has produced more than 70 publications including 25 research paper published internationally. He produced 12 M.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture and three Ph.D. students. Presently 5 Ph.d and 6 M.Sc. (Hons) Agri students are working under his supervision. He has also been on the supervisory committee of 120 M.Sc. (Hons.) and 40 Ph.D. students.
Dr. Ahmad has a splendoured personality and distinghished himself serving in different position such as Member of the University Senate; Director Student Affairs; Secretary, Faculty Board, Faculty of Agriculture; Secretary Students Disciplinary Committee; Secretary Curriculum Revision Committee, UGC; Associate Secretary, Alumini Association, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad; Member Advisory Board, Agrarian Society; Superintendent Student Residential Halls; Coordinator University Tutorial System; Students Advisor; Referee of many Scientific Journals; Examiner for Ph.D students and paper setter in Agriculture for the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore and Member of several professional National/ International Societies.
Dr. Ahmad displayed a visionary approach and a remarkable knack in providing leadership in academic, co-curricular and extra curricular fields in the University. He received many certificates/letter of appreciation for his excellent services while discharging duties assigned to him. He is well known to national/international community in his field of specialization and enjoys an excellent repute among fellow scientist and students as well.
